This is the second day of three on our drive back to Houston, Las Cruces to Kerrville, Texas. It was 540 miles and it took a little under eight hours. The best part of the driving for me is that the speed limit goes to 80 MPH just east of El Paso. That gives 430 miles of the trip at that speed limit. So I got to thinking about how much the average speed affects the travel time. Well, at 75 MPH the travel time is five hours and 44 minutes. At 80 MPH it is five hours and 23 minutes. At 88 MPH it is four hours and 53 minutes. So you are asking how many times did I get stopped for speeding. None. As a matter of fact I was about average. Our Odyssey has a nice feature where it will keep distance with the car in front. So I set the speed control at 88 and the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) does the work. You can adjust the distance it keeps with the car in front. I would say that we mostly cooked along about 85 MPH depending on the traffic. Our speed was about what the traffic was averaging in the left lane. The road was wide open and we encountered few trucks passing trucks which really slows things down. Tomorrow we are back in Houston.
