This is the Chand Baori Stepwell in Abhaneri, India. A stepwell is a structure that is deep enough to be below the water table which allows people to have access to water in arid places. I think it was built in the 15th century by a Moghul (ruler). There are 13 tiers of steps leading down to the water. It looks like an M. C. Escher drawing. Very cool to see in person. It would be a tough climb if you were balancing a big pot of water on your head.
