We did more touring of Upolu Island today. We visited Vailima Botanical Garden which was interesting, but the highlight of the day was snorkeling with the giant clams at the Giant Clam Sanctuary at Savaia. This is an interesting project because the local villagers took on the task of getting the reserve established and growing the giant clams. They make money by charging an entry fee and providing a guide. The mature clams are enormous, more than a meter wide. They are very colorful as well. We had a great time snorkeling around and Ginny got this splendid shot of one.
We also stopped at Vailima Botanical Garden which is adjacent to Robert Louis Stevenson's house. It was nice to walk around and see the exhibits. There was a small waterfall and pool where RLS would swim when he lived here.
