The Plains of Abraham Museum was our first stop this morning. The plains are famous because of a battle fought between the defending French and attacking British in September of 1759. The British prevailed and Quebec became British. All of Canada was ceded to the British as a result of the Seven Years War (the French and Indian War to us Americans). Canada remained British until 1867 when Canada became the federation of Canada.
The Ursulines have a good museum in Old Quebec City. They came in 1642 to establish a school for girls and have been active ever since. The museum was well done and the staff was very helpful. We had a look at the chapel. Even though the chapel has been enlarged several times, the altar piece was preserved since 1739.
On the way back to the hotel, we had a look at the Richard Mille clock. It is a huge mechanical clock installed in front of city hall on the 400th anniversary of the founding in 1608. It is a behemoth at 4000 pounds. In case you don't know, Richard Mille makes the most expensive watches in the world. You can spend 2 million dollars on one. If I had 2 million dollars I sure as hell wouldn't buy a wrist watch. You can see more about it here.
