Our morning stop in Montreal was the Museum of Archaeology and History. It is a real gem. It is built on top of historic structures the archaeology of which is on display in the basement. As you tour through the place you see the remnants of many Montreal buildings. It includes the Custom House, marketplace, first sewer in Montreal (don't laugh, it is cool), the Insurance Building which is the basis for the current building and Fort Ville-Marie, the original settlement and fortress established in 1642. Additionally, there was a very good traveling Viking exhibition from the National Museum of Denmark. In the afternoon we visited Notre Dame de Bon Secour and got a tour through their archaeology site which is under the present church. It seems that everybody's basement in Montreal has a potential archaeological site in the basement.

To end the day we attended the "Aura" show at the Notre Dame Basilica. This was very cool. It was lights and music which went on for twenty minutes or so. No pictures were allowed so you will have to check it out on YouTube if you are interested.
