Santa Fe is not a new destination for us. We came through in 2013 as part of our quest to visit all the state capitols. This time we were doing the more typical tourist approach. The day started out with a visit to the Georgia O'Keeffe museum. I am not an art fancier, and I found this museum and exhibition to be very boring. At the end I went through all the paintings hanging there and asked myself "Are there any of these that you would like to decorate our home?" The answer is, "No." The other thing I figure was prompted by several "experts" guiding small groups through the museum. They would spend quite a while explaining a painting (they call it interpreting). I figure that if some person has to explain it to me, I am not interested.
I will contrast that with some art we saw at the New Mexico History Museum. It is today's photo. It looks like slabs of plastic from far away. It was side-lighted. When you get up close you can see the shadows are casting profile silhouettes on the wall. That was cool. Nobody had to interpret or explain it to me. A good idea well executed. Nice art.
