We had a road trip today to El Alamein, the location of the battle in November of 1942 which turned the tide in North Africa against the Axis powers. British General Montgomery was the commander at this time. There is a very nice museum and an outdoor display of machinery which was recovered from the desert. We also visited the El Alamein War Cemetery. We traveled on a small bus from Cairo to El Alamein accompanied by an armed guard. This is de riguer in Egypt. There is a large police and military presence all over the country. I found that interesting.

At the end of the day we checked into a luxury hotel, the Rixos, which was right on the sea. Ginny loves the water and she was not going to miss the opportunity to swim in the Mediterranean Sea, a first for her. We joined the rest of the group in a cabana for some Egyptian wine and snacks. We ended up enjoying an excellent dinner dining outside under pleasant conditions by the enormous pool.
