First morning in Cairo we had breakfast with some fellow travelers then to the Egyptian Museum which is right next door to our hotel, the Nile Ritz Carlton which is right on the Nile River. We are staying a very nice places on this trip. The museum is seemingly in a state of disrepair and change. They are building a new museum (Grand Egyptian Museum, GEM) near the Pyramids which takes just about all their curatorial effort. Many of the objects in the old museum are unlabeled. We spent some time with our guide which was very enlightening and spent quite a bit of additional time wandering around on our own. The plan is to return later in the trip for more time with the guide.
