Day 42 7-15

Yesterday was a rather long relocation day and we ended up in Portage, Indiana. Our objective was to visit Indiana Dunes National Park which we did today. This was the 50th National Park we have visited. It became a national park this year, so it is the newest. It is also probably the worst. I can't think of any reason for it to be a national park. As a matter of fact, the National Park Service testified before congress that is should remain a National Lakeshore. So in the end politics probably triumphed.

Although the films at the visitor center touted all the ecology and such stuff, it is still a crappy park. It is mostly a place to go to the beach. We spent about three hours looking around. That was more than plenty. I would recommend not going out of your way to visit. It is definitely #61 out of 61 as far as I am concerned. After our visit we headed out to St. Louis to spend a couple nights with our friends Doug and Lynn.
