We had two excursions on the agenda for today. Both were fun and interesting. They also involved hiking which we enjoy. First was a trip to Passage Island which is the easternmost part of the National Park. The channel between the main island and Passage Island is a major shipping route out of Thunder Bay. We didn't see any ships. Once to the island we had a nice one mile hike to the lighthouse. It is still in operation because of the adjacent shipping lane. We had one very slow elderly lady who chose to take the hike. Because of that we were about an hour late returning to Rock Harbor. That gave us only 30 minutes before the second excursion which was across the water to Raspberry Island.
Hiking around Raspberry Island was interesting. There was a bog in the middle of it and some rocky shores on the south side. We found pitcher plants in the bog. Those are cool. I had seen them before in other bogs. Ginny and I hiked all the trails and even set off along the south shore for a bit. We spent about two hours just dawdling along and enjoying the experience.
Tosday's photo is of the Passage Island Lighthouse. It is Ginny's photo.
A major shipping route with no ships.
Was the route triangular in shape.
I have never seen a pitcher plant in the wild, only in greenhouses.
Our meat eating plants are tiny, need a magnifying glass to see them.
Old people are a pain, I know, I am an old person.
