June 6, 2019 - Special Edition

Day 3
We lived in Spartanburg for four years. During that time we flew gliders quite a bit. We left that area in 1980 to come to Houston. One of our great friends was Don Wasness. We flew gliders together and even flew in the Mt. Mitchell wave. During that flight I set a North Carolina altitude record of 29,350 feet which still stands today. Don and I were in formation that high above the ground. What a memory. So we had dinner with Don and his wife. Also his daughter Marlene who was a friend from that time as well. It was a jovial time for all. I sat down next to Don and we started talking just like the last time we met was a week ago when in reality it was 39 years ago. Life is good. Good friends last forever.

We were both flying standard Libelles.
Nothing like a mountain wave to get high.

29,350 feet, that's an impressive effort!
