So, what about tires. Tires are important to me especially because we do a lot of high speed driving on our trips. During the rainy drive last Thursday, I got to thinking about tires. When you sit for hours behind the wheel you think about a lot of stuff. The tires we have on the van are Michelin MXV-4. The original equipment tires were Continentals and two of them failed. Right there I swore off Continental tires. We put the Michelins on and have had no tire problems. The first set went 53,000 miles. The current set has 40,000 miles on them. I got to looking at tread wear indications to see when they should be replaced.

I found a good article about tread wear indicators by Michelin. I went out and had a look and todays photo is what I saw. The indicator is 1.6mm high and the little column at the top indicates that there is at least that amount to go before the tread wears down to the indicator. Bottom line, no need for new tires now. When we get ready for our next road trip I will have another look.
