As you may or may not know, the Houston Astros are in the American League Championship series. That is a big deal for Houstonians. We have been there before and won only to get slaughtered in the World Series by the White Sox.

Today was game 6 of the ALCS with the Astros trailing 3-2 in the series. It was played in Houston. Unfortunately for me, it was being broadcast only on cable, which we have not had for several years. I wanted to follow the game in some manner and so decided to use a combination of internet play by play on MLB.com and listening on the radio. I pulled out an old Radio Shack transistor radio and found a local radio station which was carrying the game.

And so I followed the game. The Astros lost three straight in New York, primarily due to poor hitting; although, the pitching wasn't up to snuff either. I was hoping that the bats would com alive. Verlander was pitching, but the doors almost came off in the seventh inning when he pitched himself out of a terrible jam along with some stellar fielding. The Astros did well in the hitting department and came away with a satisfying 7-1 win.

I think it is criminal that it is not possible to watch a baseball game on broadcast TV, especially in the teams home town. MLB and the networks are to blame. It is all about money and screw the fans. I'm not sayin', I'm just sayin'.

So tonight is the ALCS series final. I pray that the Astros can win this one. In either case, the Astros gave the fans a terrific season.
