We left Alamogordo and headed toward Las Cruces. The ultimate objective was to attend a wedding. On the way into town we stopped at Organ Mountains-Desert Peaks National Monument and did some hiking. It was an easy three mile hike up to a spot with a nice little waterfall and the remains of several old buildings that served as hotels and sanitariums. The weather was great. We had a good time. We also hiked a short distance to a hermit cave.
We checked into our hotel and got all showered and cleaned up for the evening's festivities. It was a rehearsal dinner for our friends' son Jeffrey. It was at a local winery and was a great time. Good food, wine and friendship. Also a terrific moonrise over the mountains. Life is good.
It is our custom to take a photo in front of park signs. Today's photo is one of the best ever because you can see the mountains in the background and the same mountains on the sign. How cool is that?
