October 4, 2017

Today the only objective was to have a go at Guadalupe Mountains National Park. If you look on the map, it is really off the beaten path. We were heading to Roswell from Monahans so it was only a short detour to visit the park. Unfortunately, the weather was crappy. We did do three hikes which were fun. It seems that every hike we take is more uphill than downhill, but my limited thermodynamics knowledge tells me that the net uphill and downhill for any given hike is exactly zero. Hiking is a state function.

In spite of the foggy weather we had some fun. We did get one glimpse of the mountains. Today's photo is of El Capitain off in the fog. It is actually illuminated by sunlight, but the effect is eliminated by the fog. The weather out in this part of the country has been unusually wet. We are heading to Las Cruces for a wedding. The weather forecast is for sunshine. We will see. Either way it will be fun.

It's still a nice shot. Fog makes it really
hard for landscapes unless it's heavy fog
and well defined. That's only my opinion, though.
