Project Day 57 - Exile Day 7 - I spent the whole day at the house helping move stuff out of the upstairs. We have had the preliminary plumbing and electrical inspections which yielded very short punch lists. Tomorrow we might get the closing inspection which means the sheet rockers can get to work. The major sheet rocking is on the first floor. It feels good to have the electrical and plumbing quality significantly upgraded. They had to install new wires for the 220 service to the oven because of a code change. I have to admire the electricians because they deal with complex wiring and can keep it all straight in their heads. We added a lot of new lighting to the kitchen. When we turn all the lights on full bore, it will be bright like a movie set. Fortunately all the lighting will be on dimmers.
Our objective for tomorrow is to finish up the evacuation of the second floor. We are getting close to done. The guys intend to pull up the carpet ASAP so that they can get on with floor repairs and start painting. The whole house except our bedroom will be repainted. That is a boat load of paint!
Today's photo is of the best project manager a person could ever want. Ginny is on top of everything. She is head designer, purchasing manager and superintendent. She does all of that very well. This photo is in the living room which is empty save for an upright piano and Ginny's beloved Steinway grand piano. Those will stay there while the slate floor is laid. We will just have to move them as needed.
If you look at the piano you can see a grey stripe at the bottom. That is how high the water was in the living room.
