Happy New Year Everybody. I spent the day messing around with my scanning project. I finished up a box of photos from 1999 and asked Ginny to have a look for older ones. Sure enough she came up with a box from 1987. Today's photo is from Christmas 1986.
I am having occasional difficulties with the scanner and software combination. I think there are gremlins on the loose somewhere. Maybe I am not being careful with the work flow. Anyway, the negatives have lasted very well and I am able to correct the color to something that is reasonable. I can see that some technique development will be needed if I decide I want to print any of these pictures bigger that 4 X 6. As it is now, they are just fine for viewing on the screen. One of the biggest problems with many of the negatives is the quality of the camera they were shot with. In the old days you hardly ever considered getting anything more than the snapshot prints from the drugstore. At that size they looked just fine. Clearly, there is nothing that can be done to improve the quality of the images. So it goes. the good news is that I am having a blast looking at these old photos as I process them. Life is good.
