This was definitely one of Ginny's best days. She got to do two things that she was very much looking forward to doing. We drove only 148 kilometers and stopped at Heydalur which is a guesthouse tucked back in the fjord. It is a very nice place. They have some volcanic heated hot pots and Ginny really wanted to have a warm soak in the volcanic water. She got into her bathing suit and hopped into the water and relaxed. She said it felt very nice.

They specialize in horse rides here. The Icelandic horses are world famous for having five gaits (I am told, not knowing a gait from a barn door.) She went out on one ride with a group of beginners. Ginny is an experienced rider. Then later in the afternoon she went out on an experienced ride with two girls from Austria who actually have a bunch of Icelandic horses back home. She found both rides a lot of fun. They were OK by me as well because I didn't have to go with her.

One thing we learned is that no horse of any type is ever allowed to be imported into Iceland. The breed is pure dating back over a thousand years to the Norwegian settlers. The first settlers arrived in 871 +/- 2 years. So the horses, like the language, are in their original condition. That is pretty cool, isn't it?

So today we have a photo of Ginny returning from one of her rides. She had fun riding and I had fun photographing.

BTW-we had dinner in the restaurant. We ordered smoked Puffin as a starter. It was very good.

This is a very good shot.
It don't take a horse to contaminate the breed.
Just a vacuum flask of a certain substance.
Of course I know nothing about that, just heard some stories.
I would like to taste the Smoked Puffin.
