In the continuing saga of the Cessna annual, I decided to replace the ignition harness. It arrived yesterday, and I installed it today. The story, thus far, is that I put everything back together and ran the engine. I discovered that the right magneto was now acting up. It was just fine before. The first step was to put in a new set of spark plugs. I changed out a couple, but that didn't help much. I was looking for the cold jug, but couldn't spot one. Bloke surmised that the plugs were kinda old, and that the missing heard when the engine was running on the right mag was erratic. OK, so I got a new set of plugs (multiply 12 times $26).
Well, that didn't seem to help very much. So I had a close look at the ignition and noted there seemed to be some possible points of arcing in the insulation. OK, seemed that a new harness was in order. So, here it is before I put it on the engine.
I got it all installed, then tested the engine again. Crap, better but not good enough. See tomorrow.
