I trained with Mr Harold (respect) way back when in Wembley then moved to Hampstead to work in his fantastic new Salon such days I will never forget. My dream to work for Vidal the Demi God for most hairdressers at the time...I ended up working with the greatest Roger Thompson he was just so special and such a lovely man as was Mr Harold who gave me so much...when I first watched Roger cut hair it was apparent I was not nearly as good as I thought I was...in a way hairdressing was over for me that very day.

I worked with all the greats that Sassoon roger was a great master and greatest Sassoon director so was Howard and Bernard was a has to work with we miss all that are not with us one the earth there are only a few of us original left

I worked with roger at the ny salon and at the roger Thompson salon i trained with roger and was also trained by Howard fugler i then joined bernard varano who also was one of the best haircut that sassoon created we were sassoon the best of the best

I am honored to say that I made the last three photos on this page for Roger when he was creative director at Glenby. He was so great to work with because he always got me to be more creative than I imagined I could be.

I had the honor to train under Roger twice through Glemby salons in Cleveland. My work became a personnal touch due to his cutting methods. I would not have reached my artistic goals in the hair industy without his classes.Still discuss the great methods and speak his name.
Later I worked at a salon near Cleveland, their the top stylist also trained under him, because of sharing his work, we are forever friends. A Roger Thompson fan club.

So great to see and read the roger Story all again-yes he was a talent like no other-i remember when i was with glemby int and had a week in LV on a teaching seminar with donald mackintosh-roger was doing the traing for glemby -we had so much fun inbetween the work and never to be forgotten-roger is sadly missed as is paul mitchell-talent like this is very hard to come by in 2011-i am sad to write, like there is not to many picasso's around

My name is Richard Blass and I have just seen your fantastic tribute to The late, great Roger Thompson on the John Santilli Web site.

Your words perfectly express the style and mood of that time and you articulate the magnificent style and perfection of Roger and his great creative ability.

I worked with Roger in London from 1968 - 1971. I started off as The junior [ assistant] to Christopher Brooker for 4 months then I was promoted to be Roger's assistant. Feeling very nervous I tried to be as perfect as I was able to be and treated both him and his clients with all of the respect and admiration that they deserved. After 6 amazing months working alongside Roger I knew that I was ready to become a stylist and to attempt to emulate Roger's style.

Unfortunately I was rather stunned when I started to work at the great Bond Street salon in London and was booked a client every hour. I was continually told '' speed up and stop trying to be too clever''. Speed and commission seemed to be the priority and creativity was second..

Roger went to New York in 1971 to do the hair of Twiggy in the movie ''The boyfriend''. He arranged my test to become a VS stylist as he wanted me to qualify before he left for The USA. The following people were at my test at the Vidal Sassoon school in Knightsbridge - Roger Thompson, Angelo Poli, Joshua Galvin, John Santilli, and Joshua Galvin. Of course there was no pressure to impress anybody, I managed to somehow get through the test and to fulfill my dream.

1971 was sadly the last time I saw Roger but I regularly heard about his career through the grapevine. I knew about Glemby and also about Barney's. I has a few conversations with Caroline Hayes and she had some information about Roger and I spoke to Joshua who was Roger's brother in law.

I can remember when Roger was working at a lovely salon in Berkeley Square in London called ''The Salon''.
I believe that it was sponsored by Gerard Austen who had been the managing director of Vidal Sassoon for many years. Sadly the salon did not last very long and Roger then moved to away.

Roger was an amazing creative force when he was at the VS organisation, Vidal even dedicated the Grosvenor House salon to him. His continual creative energy and vision made The VS brand a force to be admired and revered. His feel for new and inspiring haircuts was intoxicating and he will be remembered forever.

There have been some great Artistic directors in London since Roger departed such as Darryll Benson, Howard Fugler, Aitch Peters, Tim Hartley, Mark Hayes but nobody has got even close to Roger's Brilliance.

Thank you Roger for your inspiration and spirit and style, you are truly missed

Roger thompson was one of the most gifted hairdressers of his time....and the havington is still today a beautiful haircut.....there will never be another like him

the sparks relly began to fly,after Mark joined,they were a mutal admiration society,with Mark we were watching the work of a major inovative artist the salon really heated up,Roger and Mark pulled out all the stops Mark had perfect taste in everything,sometimes i traveled out to the midwest with roger,sometimes with mark Rogers work was very complex ,every head was,one of a kind,with at least a dozen types of graduation,overdirection,he was so gifted you had to be there,for at least to begin to understand

I worked with Roger,just as he opened his firs salon,after leaving vidal,we worked together for nearly three years the first year was very difficult,but then he started doing seminars out in the midwest,after a little bit more thhan a year Mark,joined us and things really began to heat up,it was at time considered the best Salon in the world
