A view of Castle Williams located on the north west point of Governor's Island in New York
Constructed between 1807 and 1811 as part of the defences of New York. During the Civil War it was used as a barracks for recruits and holding Confederate prisoners, it continued to be used as a military prison up until 1965
It is now under the jurisdiction of the National Park Service
