A view on the Burns' Monument in Edinburgh, Scotland
Built by subscription as a memorial to Scotland's national bard Robert Burns (1759 to 1796) the foundation stone was laid in 1831 and was presented to the city of Edinburgh by the subscribers in 1839.
The monument originally housed a white marble statue of Burns but the decision was made to move it due to being discoloured by pollution, it is now located in the Scottish National Portrait Gallery
