There was little information on this picture from the mid 1870's.
It shows children depicting a Calico Ball which was popular during that era.
Calico Balls were a society event popular in the 1860's and 70's where the invited ladies were asked to attend wearing a calico dress, the following day the dresses and the suits worn by the men were donated to charity.
