The Northrop X-4 was was a high speed test aircraft that first flew in 1948.
Diminutive in size it only weighed 2500 Kg, powered by two J-30 engines it had a top speed of 625 mph. Unfortunately it exhibited stability problems that could not be corrected with the technology of the day.
Both prototypes are now in museums..
