The ship had an interesting history prior to becoming a tourist ship in Toronto in 1878..
Built in England in 1864 for the Confederate States she served as a blockade runner, a roll she held until the end of the Civil War. She was then sold to Canadian interests where she served as a passenger carrier between Collingwood and Fort William, she also carried troops during the Red River Rebellion.
