Wharekuri Hotel

Waitaki Valley

Legend has it that in the 1860's two bush rangers stole money from the Wharekuri Hotel,
then hid it near Parsons Rock when the local authorities gave chase.
The thieves were caught, but the money was never found.

The Wharekuri Hotel was built/owned by the Richmond family. I have a photocopy of a picture of the original hotel when it was still standing with members of the Richmond family out front
