Clyde Masonic Lodge.

Clyde, Central Otago view map

Most of the buildings in Clyde are constructed of Schist, a rock found in abundance throughout Central Otago. The Masonic Lodge stands out in the main street.

I should imagine the schist buildings sit a lot better in the NZ landscape :-)
But this would have been pretty special when it was first built.

It does stand out - like a sore thumb, I imagine!! Is it still in use?

Love the colour, light and tonal range John; they complement the subject beautifully V

It has a very grandiose style for such a modest building. Reminds me a bit of our courthouse, which I have yet to photograph as our 'landmark' building.

I can see one of the old schist buildings in the reflection.

a grand sense of style here, with the tapered door providing a particular flourish..
