I was Mate in sailing barges for nearly five years from 1936 and was often at
Queenborough to load coal for London..Also with cargoes of hoof and horn loaded from
ships in London for the Glue Works in the creek..That was a horrible cargo...
I think the building next to the Bosuns Store was the 'Castle Inn'..During my times
there the landlord was Mr Harcup and his daughter Eileen was my girl friend.
When I left the sailing barges I was in the Merchant Navy for 20 years and lost all
contact with Queenborough but it will always hold nice memories for me.
