Lots achieved today.
Finally got the tongue and groove problem solved. I had to use my dads old button plane to champfer all the edges of the tongues, and had to cut the wood to 1 metre lengths because it just would not slide in over a greater distance. but all those joins are above the rafters so none are visible.

Got most of the tiles stacked nearby with the aide of a friend who came round for a half day.
