Taken from the river bed below the lock.

River bed at Richmond Lock view map

Three photos stiched together.
To get this shot safely, there is a very short time at an extra low tide when you can walk out to this spot.
Once the tide turns it rises very quickly.

and, presumably, intellect.

Yes John, well not exactly fight, the island was covered with seagulls, jackdaws, pigeons, cormorants and herons.
They gave way to my superior size.

Having been there, it gives a whole different perspective on the actual shot. Did you have to fight off the birds for posession of the dry ground??

John, wish you had of been there.
It is a weird feeling being so low down on the river bed, in the centre of the river looking up at the lock from so close.
I had to stich the photos as my 24mm-105mm lens was not wide enough for one shot.
Even two shots did not cover it

nice one, John
