I was fortunate like many to see the Great American Eclipse of 2017. Being originally from St. Louis, I headed back home for the event and scouted out my location the day before. I ended up shooting the eclipse in Hillsboro Missouri which had totality for 2 minutes 38 seconds. My location that I scouted was the Hillsboro Cemetery which provided great unobstructed views and was not crowded at all. In fact, I think there may have only been about 15 people in the cemetery. It would have been nice if totality had been in downtown St. Louis, but that area was about 10 miles north of the totality line. So one evening, my dad and I headed to the riverfront to do a few nighttime shots of the arch and skyline and created a superimposed picture of totality over downtown St. Louis. Had totality been right through the Arch, this would have no doubt been the most in demand location in the US to photograph the eclipse. Looking forward to 2024 and the eclipse passing through Texas.
