STA 5 is located south of Clewiston Fl. Clewiston is at the bottom of Lake Okeechobee in central Florida east of Ft. Myers and west of Palm Beach. This visit was quite an experience. The area is mainly farmland, where many migrant and other workers live. It is not what you see along the coasts. The birding area- sta 5 is only open to visitors twice a month and you have to go with a group, although once in the area you are free to drive around on your own. We saw several life birds including Snail kites, Fulvous ducks, and Caracara. It is a very large area and was quite fascinating. http://www.tropicalaudubon.org/sta.html

Hi Joan, wonderful photos! Your "raptor" at the bottom of the page is a female American Kestrel. Thanks for sharing these and for the information on STA 5!
