This was on the side of an old firehouse building. I couldn't figure out what would happen if I pulled it down. Does anyone know?

I have no idea, but I think it is a neat photo. Did you pull it down, I know I would have had to give it a try.

I still think it dropped the fire escape stairs on the police car parked under them :) You really should have pulled it...

In the 50s and 60s, aliens would often secretly use fire stations as a base for their operations on earth. The telling feature was a lever like you have pictured. If activated, the entire fire house would be instantly transformed into a space craft and would lift off like a rocket. There are two clear signs here. One is the color scheme. No rational earthling would pick pink and green for their color scheme. Secondly, note how the ball at the end resembles a planet. This is no accident. This is actually a replica of the aliens' home planet. So there you have it.
