Although it seems mild compared to Shanghai, and especially Beijing, air pollution is one of the biggest issues for Hong Kong residents. Most of the pollution comes from across the border in industrial southeast China, but it is difficult for Hong Kongers to point the finger when the pollution is created by the production of electricity and goods that they consume. Like Beijing, the city is making efforts to move manufacturing and electricity generation away from this population center, but this is not a long term solution - over 25% of the particulate matter in Los Angeles' skies has drifted all the way from China.
