Beautiful pic! Have been watching a pair of them along Marsh Creek in the valley Northern Cal and yesterday morning found a dead (eaten) bird on the trail with mostly black tailfeathers, a few white remaining. I know their wings are tipped in black. It was about the right size. I'm wondering if it's one of the pair. There's still one up in a pine tree. They were in separate trees. Crows are starting to nest below them. Would they have killed say the female and done such a thing, or perhaps the male was defending the nest? Appreciate a reply. I bike every morning so will continue to look for the missing mate.
