Every year in June, tribes all over Sarawak celebrate the harvest festival called Gawai. In US terms it is like New Year's Eve, Thanksgiving, and the biggest family reunion ever rolled into one event. About half of the Berawan people in this longhouse still follow the traditional Na-Poh religion. Pigs are sacrificed to the spirits in order to bring good fortune to the tribe. Everyone is in a great mood, and the hospitality is unparalled. Oh Yeah, and you drink homemade rice wine all day and night.
