First State National Historical Park – Delaware

First State National Historical Park celebrates the history of the state of Delaware from its first settlers to the meeting of the legislature at New Castle in 1776 where independence was formally declared from the British. Subsequently in 1781, Delaware ratified the new US Constitution making it the First State.

The park encompasses six sites to include the Old Swedes Church, Fort Christina, the New Castle Court House and a tract of land in the Brandywine Valley which stretches into Pennsylvania.
