Yosemite National Park – Tioga Road – California (2021)

I’ve toured Yosemite National Park several times in the past few years but the last two times I was here the Tioga Road, to the north of the Yosemite Valley, was closed for two different reasons. In 2018 the area was blanketed by the smoke from the Ferguson Fire and in 2019 the road was still being cleared of snow even though it was June.

Hoping the third time would be the charm, I scheduled a stop on the east side of the Sierras to give it another try. Unfortunately, a large fire in Sequoia National Park was pushing thick smoke to the east, and everywhere else for that matter, and I was once again worried about whether I would be able to see the sights along the road. As with many of my stops this year I not only had to be my own weatherman but also had to interpret the wind direction to determine when it would be clear enough to go into the parks. I was lucky and the wind and weather cooperated allowing me to drive the Tioga Road and see all the amazing granite domes and cliffs.

You got some great images after all. The clouds and light create truly moving images. I need to get back to Tenaya Lake!
