Joshua Tree National Park host plant and animal species from both the Mojave Desert in the north and the lower lying Colorado Desert in the south. Of course the highlight here is the park’s namesake, the Joshua Tree, which grows in abundance in the northern section of the park. The tree can grow to just under 50 feet and can survive for several hundred years.

This is my second visit to the park and it was just as fascinating this time around as it was when I first laid eyes on the place some six years ago. The Joshua Tree itself is a wonder, especially in forest-like quantity, but the park also has many interesting rock formations, boulder stacks and jumbles. The only real difference was the weather, six years ago I visited here in late June and the temperatures hovered in the low 100’s during the day; this year I experienced highs in the upper 70’s, well below the normal highs for this time of year. No complaints here…
