Sequoia National Park – Generals Highway – California (2018)

The trip through Sequoia National Park runs on the slow moving mountain road California 198 or as it is known in the park, the Generals Highway. Being that I’m here late in the season there are less people to deal with and the almost 100 degree temperatures in the valley become very comfortable mid-70 degree temperatures throughout the park. I’ve been here before so I’ve seen all the sites along the Generals Highway; however, I was dealing with overcast skies five years ago and was here for only two days. This time, being in the area for a full month, I have the opportunity to select the best weather days to make my pilgrimages into this park as well as Kings Canyon National Park to the north. Most days here are nice but the area is still dealing with the smoky remnants of the terrible wildfire season so that is my prime concern when going into the mountains; will it be clear enough to see distant mountain ranges. Luckily I was able to climb Moro Rock on a clear day getting a spectacular view of the Great Western Divide. On the other hand the Giant Sequoias are always amazing but even more so with a deep blue sky as a backdrop.
