On our second birding tour with Natural Discovery Costa Rica we were taken to the Tapir Valley Nature Reserve across the provincial border in Alajuela. This private reserved is situated between the Tenorio Volcano and Miravalles Volcanos in the Guanacaste Mountain Range. It covers 220 acres of mature rain forest, secondary jungle, an open grassland, a large wetland, and a marvelous hummingbird garden. We encountered no other tours during our time there - it was wonderful to be out in the wilderness without a crowd of tourists on such a beautiful day!
