It never fails, when you are restoring a motorcycle that there are worn or broken parts. Loose headsets take out steering tubes, a chain takes out a boss for the shifter, or some Yoyo uses a screw driver to try and pry a cylinder off. The thing these have in common is welding and machining to repair the parts.
The other problem with old bikes is that something as simple as a brake cable may no longer be available. This will mean that parts will need to be modified in order to make them work.
Personally, I do not see how you can restore bikes without at least a small lathe.
