1971 Honda SL175

1971 Honda SL175.

After building a SL175 race bike, I ended up with a lot of extra parts. I decided to build up a pit bike and found another SL175 to use as a base. I picked the best parts, cleaned, polished, replated, repainted, powdercoated etc, and this bike is the result. This bike runs better than any of the stockers I have ridden, starts easily, and has no leaks, and does not smoke. It has a great paint job that should look good for years. Mileage is unknown, but I have put 5-600 miles on the bike since refurbishing.

The engine has been gone through, and has new piston rings/pins, seals/gaskets, clutch plates, valve job, mild porting/matching, indexed cam, rebuilt carbs with new floats and velocity stacks. New pod filters. New fuel petcock and fuel cap. Exhaust has been repaired and is solid with no leaks. Breather modified to prevent spitting oil at high RPM.

Electrics all work--lights, indicator/instrument lights, horn, etc. New stitches. New headlight bulb. New points/condenser/coil/wires/caps. Using Harley big twin coil with modern construction. Solid state rectifier. Bike is wired for turn signals and has handlebar switch, but no signals installed. Yuasa battery.

Bike has new cables, grips, new brake shoes, new chain and sprockets. Tires are 40 year old OEM. Needs new tires, but would lose the "look" without the stock tires. Seat has new cover and foam. Seat pan is for a K1, which leaves a gap between the tank and seat. K0 seat pans that are useable are non existant, so I have been using the K1 seat pan which also is longer and makes it possible to carry a passenger. Swingarm modified to properly mount passenger footpegs. Hardware has been either replaced or replated. Redwing shocks, forks have new seals and good chrome.

Frame and tank professionally painted with PPG base/clear paint. Beautiful paint job. Tank sealed with Caswell Epoxy. Brackets, skid plate, seat pan, side covers, most chrome, etc have been powder coated for durability.

Stock tool kit with new bag and owners manual.

Nice bike to ride and enjoy.
