This engine was still running when I got the bike. The engine was dissassembled, cleaned, and inspected. The cases were bead blasted, and cracks repaired. The bosses that the shift mechanism were damaged by the chain and needed welding and machining. Helicoils and new alignment pins were installed. There were some cracks in the engine mounts and they were welded too. The side cases had some gouges in them that were welded and smoothed out and painted.
The engine has been rebuilt. New piston/rings/bearing/piston pin bored 2nd over. SKF main and output shaft bearings. The only bearing that did not get changed was the large end of the crank. I was advised against it because the bearing looked good and had no free play. Like Yamaha pistons, there are several different cranks used and parts do not always match. If the rebuilder had got it apart and had a problem it would get expensive. The crank is true and should give no problems. Every seal is new, even in the oil pump. There are no puddles under the engine. New clutch disks/springs.
