The local people believe that Kawagarbo has magical powers, they name it "Grandpa Kawagarbo". It was also here where one of the most serious accidents of alpine climbing happened where 17 people lost their lives on the way to the peak. Until now Kawagarbo has never been climbed.
Many visitors are coming here, only to see the peak of Kawagarbo, or even better, "Golden Peak" when the morning sun shining on the peak, but it is just your luck if you can see them. The 3-day trekking tour to the Yubeng Village attracts many people too, which is definitely to recommend. But if you just do not have enough time, a small hiking tour of 10km to the Mingyong Glacier could also be a good choice.
From Shangri-la to Mainri, it takes normally 7 hourse to finish the 155 km distance, while this road is extremly dangerous and difficult.
