There are many Spring Festival markets (庙会) starting from the day of the new year. They are actually called "meetings around the temples", from where you can guess that it came from the tradition in old China, that people went to temples to pray on the spring festival. Therefore people build the big markets around the temples so that the temple visitor would come to the market too. The market at temple of the Earth (地坛) is famous for the traditional Chinese decorations and contents.
