From Half Moon Island, we made our way to Cuverville Island (64 deg 41'S, 62 deg38'W). Cuverville is home to about 6500 pairs of nesting gentoo penguins. The waters around Cuverville are littered with icebergs of all sizes and shapes. On our return to the Quest, our naturalist zodiac driver took us out into the bay, away from shore noise, and turned off the engines. It was fascinating to hear the pops of air bubbles bursting after being trapped in glacial ice for ages. The naturalist explained the variety of features we observed on the icebergs.
