8/12: Curb Appeal

*** SURVEY QUESTION ***

Where I live, if you sell a house in which someone has died within the last three years, you are obligated by law to disclose it to prospective buyers.

The survey question is this: if you found a house you wanted to buy and then found out that an elderly person had died there peacefully of natural causes two years earlier, would it affect your decision to purchase the home?

Thanks very much for your answer.

Wouldn't affect my decision at all. I have some good friends who live in a house where a double homicide was committed. I go over all the time, and have even spent the night there several times.

probably not
Chris Sofopoulos16-Aug-2005 18:24
No I would have no problem;)
Sheila16-Aug-2005 15:25
No. It would bother me more if there was an housing commitee who could tell me what colour I had to paint my house!
J. Scott Coile15-Aug-2005 17:16
Nope. No problem here (other than your market value) :)

Pretty yard and house. Probally could by a mansion somewhere else for what is needed for this house there.
grafix7214-Aug-2005 13:25
Depends....do you get a discount on the house? :)

Nice house and shot. Nope, would not affect my decision to buy.

If the person died peacefully of natural causes, it wouldn't bother me. I'd think they died in a wonderful house they really loved. It might bother me if it wasn't of natural causes though.

No it wouldn't affect my decision! And this is a beautiful house photo, looks like it belongs in the Brady Bunch neighborhood : )

Crackers. How bizarre, who cares.
Cliff13-Aug-2005 16:32
All depends if the deceased is still in residence ! LOL
Chris13-Aug-2005 16:09
LOL Northy.

You already seem to have an overwhelming consensus, but I'll make you two cents richer as well. Don't care.

No, it wouldn't affect my decision to purchase it. Some day I'd like to have a haunted house, but a peaceful death rarely seems to lead iu that direction, anyway. This appears to be a nice little house that would go for about $1,300,000. Am I right?

Life (and death) happens ... we all have to go sometime, somewhere.
There are more disturbing things to have happen in a house - more than a peaceful, natural death. Frankly, I find that law pretty bazaar...! California????

Beautiful home, great landscaping.
I don't think it'd bother me unless lights went on and off on their own, doors opened and closed by themselves, and I saw a strange mist floating through the air. In that case, I'd probably still buy it and then develop my own reality TV show. :-)

Such a nice place with those palms!
It wouldn't affect my decision.
Guest 13-Aug-2005 14:33
Lovely place- it wouldn't affect my decision.

Not at all, I would figure the law of averages would be on my side ;-) Also, that someone died in the home is probably minor compared to what else may have gone on there! Point of fact, after I moved into a house in Orange I heard from the neighbors how fairly recently there had been conterfeiters living there, one night a couple of dozen black cars and vans pulled up and hauled everyone away, they then proceded to knock out walls looking for stashed funny money and drugs.

optimist13-Aug-2005 08:21
Nice house. Can you see the ocean from there if you climb the palm trees?
Ian Morehouse13-Aug-2005 07:03
Has no effect on whether I buy or not. Did it affect the photo, because it is lovely looking house and the photo is great.
Mindy McNaugher13-Aug-2005 06:44
Beautiful home and landscaping! As long as it was from natural causes, no problem!
Lee Rudd13-Aug-2005 06:12
If the house was right, not at all
Guest 13-Aug-2005 06:01
Depends on how long it took for the deceased to be discovered.... ;)

Seriously, it wouldn't bother me at all....
