This is a Red-Shanked Douc Langur. They live in the rainforests of Indo-China (Vietnam, Cambodia & Laos).
Some people claimed that it is the prettiest species of monkeys in the world, but I think we can safely say it should be one of the most colourful.
The top of its head and body are black-gray in colour. Its face is yellow, while its beard and tail are white in colour. If you look at its legs, the thighs are pinkish-white while maroon-red fur cover the lower legs (shank) as if the monkey is wearing a pair of colourful stockings. Likewise, white fur cover the monkey’s forearms as if it is wearing a pair of long gloves.
So you can understand why the Red-Shanked Douc Langur is sometimes referred to as ‘The Costumed Ape’ …
This species of monkeys has now been declared as critically endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
Btw, if you are wondering, this monkey shown is a male. The female looks similar but is noticeably smaller in size.
