PHOTO-ART OUTINGS

The Photo-Art Association of Singapore is one of the two most active photographic clubs in Singapore, the other being the Photographic Society of Singapore. Among other activities, it organizes photo outings for members (and non-members) every Sunday morning. All shoots are posed or set up. There is no 'story-telling photography' here, we shoot whatever is prepared for us on the day. For me, the focus is on the set-up, making best use of the available (natural) lighting, composition of the shot, etc. The 'models' are not necessarily the main subject of the shoots. They are almost always amateurs with little or no modelling experience. This is a conscious effort by the organizers to keep the cost of the outings low and affordable for everyone (usually only $6 for members and $8 for non-members, though it may cost more for some outings depending on the props and models employed). Anyone can join the photo outings - just be at Geylang Lorong 27 on Sunday morning at 8am. You should be able to see the regulars taking breakfast at the two coffeeshops there with their camera bags and tripods. A private bus will fetch all participants to and from the shooting location, just join in when the bus leaves at around 8:20am.
